Cookie Policy

Last updated: February 9, 2026

1. What Are Cookies

Cookies are small text files that are stored on your device when you visit a website. They help websites remember your preferences, understand how you use the site, and improve your experience.

We also use similar technologies such as web beacons, pixels, and local storage, which function similarly to cookies. All of these are covered by this policy.

2. How We Use Cookies

2.1 Essential Cookies (Required)

These cookies are necessary for the Service to function properly. Without them, core features become inaccessible. They enable user authentication, session management, security features, and load balancing.

You cannot opt out of essential cookies as they are required for operation.

2.2 Functional Cookies

These cookies remember your settings and preferences to enhance your experience.

localeLanguage preference1 year

2.3 Analytics Cookies

Analytics cookies help us understand how visitors interact with our Service so we can improve the experience. Data is aggregated and anonymized. We may use Google Analytics or similar tools to collect:

  • Pages visited and time spent on each page
  • Referral sources
  • General geographic location (country/city level)
  • Browser and device type

3. Third-Party Cookies

3.1 Authentication Providers

Google OAuth: Google may set cookies to manage authentication. See Google's Privacy Policy.

3.2 Payment Processing

Stripe: Our payment processor uses cookies for fraud prevention and secure payments. See Stripe's Privacy Policy.

3.3 Infrastructure

Vercel: Our hosting provider may set cookies for performance optimization and security.

Supabase: Our backend provider sets cookies for authentication and session management.

4. Chrome Extension Storage

Our Chrome extension uses browser local storage to:

  • Store your authentication session
  • Cache saved content temporarily for offline access
  • Remember extension preferences

This data is stored locally on your device and syncs with our servers when you're online.

5. Managing Cookies

5.1 Browser Settings

Most web browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings. You can:

  • View what cookies are stored on your device
  • Delete individual or all cookies
  • Block cookies from specific websites
  • Block all third-party cookies
  • Clear cookies when closing the browser

Blocking essential cookies may prevent the Service from functioning properly and may prevent login or access to core features.

5.2 Browser-Specific Instructions

  • Google Chrome
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Safari
  • Microsoft Edge

5.3 Opting Out of Analytics

You can install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on to opt out of analytics tracking across all websites.

6. Do Not Track

Some browsers offer "Do Not Track" (DNT) settings that request websites not track your browsing activity. Currently, no industry standard exists for responding to DNT signals. Readstash does not currently respond to DNT signals, but you can manage cookies as described above.

7. Cookie Retention

  • Session Cookies: Automatically deleted when you close your browser
  • Persistent Cookies: Remain on your device until they expire or are manually deleted. Typically expire within 1 year.
  • Authentication Cookies: May persist up to 1 year if you select "Remember me" during login

8. Updates to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal, operational, or regulatory reasons. The "Last updated" date at the top indicates when changes were last made. Significant changes may be communicated via email or a prominent notice on the Service.
